I thought a section on travel would be interesting, a sort of travel blog.
For work I tend to travel a lot; I could certainly write a lot about the monuments, the landscapes I have seen. But, to be honest, I realized right away it was not a good idea. I do not think the world needs yet another person showing their life and their travels. I would have turned this blog into my Instagram (or TikTok) page. If I am not on social media, there must be a reason…
So I will not talk about the monuments, or the landscapes, but about feelings. About what I felt and perceived when I was in a particular place. I have visited many beautiful cities, European and non-European, for a day or for a week, but none has changed me like Genoa. For work I spent about two months in this city, from the end of May to mid-July 2025, and I came out changed. A symptom of this inner revolution is certainly my productivity in writing. It was in Genoa that I threw away entire scripts, but, to make up for it, I wrote the first two Graphic Novels of my trilogy. Naturally, behind it lay a long stretch of work on notes, dialogue and a lot of research that began many months earlier, but the actual writing happened in those months. As described in the fragment To you, the reader Atlante and Harem were written simultaneously between February and July 2025 (though this counts the writing from the first panel). In reality the actual writing, the most daring one, was during my Genoese months, with the solitude of that period as an accomplice. It is an inaccuracy that I wanted to keep because with Amorumò I have always had the feeling that I started writing it much earlier, that every letter I wrote in my life simply led me to the final draft of this Graphic Novel. A more attentive reader will certainly notice that Atlante and Harem are part of Amorumò which is only the first volume of the trilogy. Well, in those months I also wrote Musa, the second volume. Musa has a fascinating history because, in reality, a first draft of the work came into being two years earlier, but, in Genoa, I kept only the skeleton of the original, creating a Graphic Novel very different from, yet closely tied to, the first volume.
I realize I have not talked about Genoa at all, its beauty and uniqueness, but, well, there is no need for many other words, apart from those I put into Amorumò itself, written on the third day in Genoa.
I THINK THAT WRITING THE SCREENPLAY IN THIS CITY MIGHT HELP ME. I AM STARTING TO PERCEIVE ITS ROMANTICISM, OR PERHAPS IT IS ONLY MINE ACTING AS A FILTER. GENOA HAS SOMETHING POETIC (MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE STARTED A NEW LINE), SOMETHING POETIC THAT FASCINATES ME.
IT IS A LAND OF ARTISTS, SINGER-SONGWRITERS WITH AN ELEGANT PEN, WITH A GENUINE PEN.
