L’eristica (in greco antico ἐριστική (τέχνη) «arte del disputare», derivato di ἐρίζω «contendere», da ἔρις «lite») è una evoluzione della Prima Sofistica di Protagora e di Gorgia. All’eristica, infatti, non interessa se un discorso possa essere vero o falso né le definizioni delle parole che vengono impiegate; il suo unico fine è quello di confutare il proprio avversario e di persuaderlo mediante la retorica a cambiare opinione. Per questo i sofisti della scuola eristica, detti eristi, si vantavano di poter confutare qualsiasi cosa che si dica esser vera o esser falsa.

La prima volta che ho sentito parlare di questo tema ho pensato ai social. Il primo pensiero è stato: “Che cambia? Sembrano la stessa cosa…” E in effetti lo sono. La dialettica eristica si basa sull’avere ragione anche quando non la si ha, lo so, sembra un paradosso.
Un altro termine mi è venuto così in soccorso: Content Flooding. Una marea di informazioni. Offuscare la mente sino ad impedire il pensiero, avere ragione anche quando non la si ha.
Non mi piace molto definirmi, e certamente non mi definisco anti-social, uso comunque regolarmente YouTube e WhatsApp. Ma, ad essere sincero, ho eliminato Instagram e Facebook (TikTok o simili non li ho neanche mai scaricati) proprio per paura del Content Flooding.
Un terzo termine che mi viene in mente è stillicidio. Certamente forte, ma altrettanto vero e simbolo di una situazione reale.
Non voglio certo demonizzare i social, o attaccarli, ma penso che un senso di distacco e un attimo per respirare sia sempre utile.
Il beneficio principale che ho avuto con l’eliminazione dei social è certamente il tempo, ma non si può neanche considerare da poco il mio non-annegare nel Content Flooding. Restare a galla, certo con fatica, ma pur sempre a galla.
La possibilità di poter scegliere le informazioni è un dono raro di questi tempi e non ho affatto intenzione di rinunciarvi.
Il percorso di Sidio senza i social è sicuramente arduo, ma, per me, mantenere la lucidità è essenziale. SIDIO non ha social media: vuole condividere, ma restare nascosto.

The first time I heard about this topic I thought of social media. The first thought was: “What changes? They seem like the same thing…” And indeed they are. Eristic dialectic is based on being right even when one is not, I know, it seems like a paradox.
Another term thus came to my rescue: Content Flooding. A tide of information. To cloud the mind until thought is prevented, to be right even when one is not.
I do not like defining myself much, and I certainly do not define myself as antisocial, I still regularly use YouTube and WhatsApp. But, to be honest, I deleted Instagram and Facebook (I never even downloaded TikTok or similar) precisely for fear of Content Flooding.
A third term that comes to mind is constant drip. Certainly strong, but equally true and symbolic of a real situation.
I certainly do not want to demonize social media, or attack them, but I think a sense of detachment and a moment to breathe is always useful.
The main benefit I had with the elimination of social media is certainly time, but my not drowning in Content Flooding cannot be considered a small thing either. Staying afloat, certainly with effort, but still afloat.
The possibility of being able to choose information is a rare gift these days and I have no intention at all of giving it up.
The journey of Sidio without social media is certainly arduous, but, for me, maintaining clarity is essential. SIDIO has no social media: it wants to share, yet remain hidden.
