Ho giร affrontato in parte il tema in โWe used to be magicians on the boardโ, sotto perรฒ una luce differente, non voglio dunque parlare nuovamente di maghi e stregoni, ma dellโapproccio attuale al mondo dei computer scacchistici.
Grandi scacchisti come Nakamura e Carlsen spesso usano โlinee inferioriโ sorprendendo lโavversario e portandolo in territori inesplorati.

In 1997 Deep Blue beats the reigning world champion Garry Kasparov setting a milestone in the history of the game and perhaps well beyond the game itself. Subsequently other chess models have surpassed Deep Blue itself and have become indisputably more performing than humans. On Wikipedia the estimated ELO of Stockfish is 3653, by far higher than the best human score of 2882 by Magnus Carlsen.
I have already partly addressed the theme in โWe used to be magicians on the boardโ however under a different light, so I do not want to talk again about wizards and sorcerers but about the current approach to the world of chess computers.
The response of the chess community to the defeat of Kasparov was the return to the past, rediscovering openings such as the Italian game. Similar to my reaction, unaware and proud (Kingโs Gambit).
Stockfish has a perfect, impeccable game, but what sense is there in copying it? How beautiful it is instead to return to sacrifices, to the beautiful game, to those that today have become the inferior lines.
Great chess players like Nakamura and Carlsen often use inferior lines surprising the opponent and bringing them into unexplored territories.
Another response was reevaluating Chess960, now called Freestyle Chess, thus seeking to make randomness essential and prevent a monotonous game. The concept is certainly fascinating and today, more than yesterday, it is developing intensely with very prestigious tournaments.
Using the computer for analysis is undoubtedly interesting, it can lead to conclusions that are sometimes even shocking, discovering a certain aptitude for a determined style. Indeed there is not always only one right move, the setup on the board is clear, crystalline, paradoxically making the choice more complex. It is in that moment, with your decision, that you show who you are.
Every move is an index of risk tolerance, of priorities, of vulnerability. Although everything is predicted by the computer one of our variations can reveal a lot. Reuben Fine in his book โThe Psychology of the Chess Playerโ relates the king piece to the father figure.
In chess, according to Fine, one thus wants to defeat oneโs own symbolic father, defending oneself as a child.
This leads to an important division that the author makes between two types of players: the first is rebellious: attacks and sacrifices; the second is defensive: builds, avoids risk, consolidates. This shows a diametrically opposite relationship with authority, a difference between those who want to kill the father and those who have difficulty separating from him.
Certainly chess models have the solution, but it is not always the right one for us.
