I have realized how important it is to give depth to things. In writing, at times, I overdo it: I perceive my pages as steeped in meaning, almost to the point of saturation. Often noticing how they are, always sometimes, mind you, ends in themselves. It is a frustrating sensation to feel the meaning overshadowing the main story, as if in a theater the voices of the audience drowned out those of the actors. A murmur so loud that it keeps the truth from showing.

I have often had to lighten my pages, hopefully with success, pausing to translate every layer into something accessible and cohesive.

Depth is not synonymous with quality, at least not necessarily. The meaning I seek so intensely also resides in simplicity.

I have written three scripts, a graphic novel trilogy of which you only know the title of the last volume; but, well, it is interesting to see how my writing has evolved, and I have reached (I believe and hope) a result I had craved, a certain simplicity of language. I am not entirely sure, however, whether it is effective or yet another mistake. Nor do I know if a more experienced reader would appreciate my writing, but I believe it matters little.

What matters is intellectual honesty and willpower. Honest prose is always quality prose.

It matters to me to honor this pact with myself: to be true, and never to settle for a compromise on anything, in either prose or idea.

I know it sounds like a statement of intent, and, deep down, it is.
